Conjugated Linoleic Acid: Sources, Synthesis and Potential Health Benefits- an Overview
نویسندگان
چکیده
Conjugated linoleic acid is a group of positional and geometrical isomers of linoleic acid (C18:2, cis-9, cis-12), an essential fatty acid for human and animals. It is produced in ruminants via biohydrogenation of poly-unsaturated fatty acids and during the mechanical processing of dairy products. Meat and dairy products from ruminant animals (such as milk, butter, yogurt and cheese) are the principal natural sources of CLA in the human diet. Because of its reported biological activities (i.e. anticarcinogenic, antiatherogenic, immune-enhancing and weight-reducing properties) in animal models, CLA has become a subject of interest as a supplement for human nutrition. However, further research is required to check the efficacy and role of CLA, the good fat, in cancer and other disease prevention; and to form the basis of evaluating its effect in humans by observational studies and clinical trials.

The Metabolic Effects of Conjugated Linoleic Acids (CLA) in Chickens: A Review
Conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) are natural constituents of meat and dairy products from ruminants, originating from bacterial biohydrogenation in the rumen. CLA supplementation increases the health benefits of animal-derived foods. There are inconsistent reports of the effects of dietary CLA on chicken’s performance; however, the majority of previous reports cite anti-lipogenic effects of CLA....
متن کاملLipase Catalyzed Incorporation of Conjugated Linoleic Acid by Transesterification into Sunflower Oil Applying Immobilized Lipase (Lipozyme Thermomyces lanuginosus and Rhizomucor mehei)
Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), Glycerol (G) and sunflower oil blends with varying concentration were subjected to enzymatic esterification using a 1, 3- specific immobilized lipase. CLA was used as acyl due to its purported health benefits. The transesterified lipids were evaluated for free fatty acids (FFA) and composition of fatty acids by gas chromatography. Lipozyme RM IM is preferred for ...
متن کاملConjugated Linoleic Acid and Dietary Beef
Introduction Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a naturally occurring trans fat, is commonly found in ruminant animal sources such as beef, lamb, and dairy products (e.g., milk and cheese). Over the past two decades a wealth of research, mainly from in vitro and experimental animal studies and limited human investigations, has examined potential health benefits of CLA. This research on the biologi...
متن کاملConjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA): A Review
The object of this review is to create an overview of Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), from the presence of these molecules in products of animal origin to the benefits brought to the health of human beings who ingest these products. We will examine the literature to describe the CLA synthesis process in the rumen and in tissues and the method by which CLA becomes incorporated into consumer prod...
